About our podcast: Build Your Saas
In 2004, 37signals started an indie SaaS revolution when they launched Basecamp and Ruby on Rails.
Since then, thousands of entrepreneurs, developers, designers, and product people have tried to capture some of that success by launching their own web apps.
But now, there is way more competition, and many categories have become saturated.
What does it take to build a Software as a Service business in 2023?
Follow Jon and Justin in their journey of building, launching, and growing Transistor.fm.
Jon Buda lives in Chicago. He's been involved in the podcasting world since 2013 and has been building software since 2002.
Justin Jackson lives in British Columbia. He's been doing Product Management with SaaS companies since 2008 and podcasting since 2012.
Why did we start a podcast when we started building our company?
Jon and Justin started the Build your SaaS podcast right after they agreed to build Transistor together. They wanted to have a record of their journey building the company: from zero customers to earning their first revenue dollars.
They found that podcasting every week had several benefits:
- It forced them to have a regular "co-founder phone call."
- By "building in public" and sharing their story, many fans started supporting Transistor through advice, connections and becoming customers.
- Talking about issues out loud helped them solve problems, discover new insights, and form strategies.
- Sharing their journey was a way of giving back to the bootstrapper/startup community that had shared so much information with Jon and Justin.
